Welcome to KCTL's Teaching Toolbox wiki!

The Teaching Toolbox is facilitated by Laura Kates, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education in the Department of Behavioral Science and Human Services. The group meets to share ideas on a variety of pedagogical methods and strategies to make learning more active and engaging for our students. Over the course of the past three years, the group has drawn on current scholarship about effective teaching strategies for undergraduate students as well as on our  experiences in the classroom, to constantly, collaboratively, refine and improve our teaching and assessment practices.

Texts we've found especially useful include:

The Handbook of Critical Thinking Resources from Prince George Community College

Linda Nilson's Teaching at Its Best

Barkley, Cross and Major's Collaborative Learning Techniques

Barbara Gross Davis' Tools for Teaching

Angela Provitera McGlynn's Teaching Today's College Students

In addition, we've explored and implemented the seminaring approaches developed by undergraduate faculty working in collaboration with the Washington Center for Improving the Quality of Undergraduate Education at the The Evergreen State College. A packet describing this approach is attached:Seminaring Materials.pdf

We've also utilized readings from Advocate: the NEA's periodical about approaches to higher education:http://www.nea.org/home/1823.htm and from FacultyFocus.comFaculty Focus Teacing Mistakes.pdf Faculty Focus 10 Effective Management Technique.pdf
